[Travel] Places to eat in New York City

Foods we ate

- We mostly ate Korean food because that was our goal for this trip. There was a lot of good food and options for us and we were just really excited to be eating Korean food that we can't eat back home.

Blue Coffee
- Min really wanted to go here and try this coffee! (I’m not a huge coffee drinker so it didn’t really entice me too much) Apparently Blue Coffee is like the Starbucks of New York/East Coast.

Food Gallery
- Food Gallery is a small area that sells a bunch of different Korean and Asian foods including tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes-my favorite food), naengmyun (Korean cold noodles), jokbal (pigs feet), Korean fried chicken, ice cream, bubble tea, and a bunch more! This area I would definitely check out and eat here. We ate here multiple times due to the large selection of food. The food isn’t super amazing, but it was still pretty tasty and we liked that we could get a bunch of different types of foods to eat at once.

BBQ Chicken
- We got the honey soy garlic fried chicken, Korean spicy rice cake (tteokbokki) and corn salad. BBQ chicken is a famous fried chicken franchise in Korea so I really wanted to try here. It was really good!

Food Gallery and BBQ Chicken

H-Mart
- This is a big Korean market that came over from Korea and has locations all over the United States. We were curious to see how different the items were compared to the H-Mart in Michigan. Unfortunately, New York was very expensive and we ended up not buying anything. The store was smaller than the one in Michigan, but I think there were definitely more items in New York that we didn’t see in Michigan.

Ichiran
- This is a Japanese ramen restaurant that has separate one person booths for you to eat with the chefs and waiters hidden in the area in front of you. Your order your ramen through a form and buzz the waiter to get the order form. You don’t ever see the waiter or chef’s face and the point of this type of restaurant is to enjoy your ramen and fully devour it without the distraction of other people and noise.

Gopchang story
- Gopchang is a Korean dish made of cow or pig intestines. It is a really popular dish people eat with beer or soju (korean vodka). I’ve never had any before and was a little bit iffy about the idea of having intestines, so we decided to get the fried rice with gopchang. It was really tasty and it was so chewy and delicious! I sometimes have a hard time eating certain foods, but I think this dish anyone can eat. Also, if you eat the actual barbeque gopchang dish and not just the fried rice, they eventually make you fried rice at the end of your meal with your leftover gopchang. BUT! If you do plan on eating here, they have a discount for those who pay in cash instead of credit card.

Paris Baguette and Tous Les Jours
- These are two big bakery shops in Korea. We got a couple of pastries and some Korean rice cake for my parents to bring back home to them. It was Min’s birthday during our trip so we also bought a cake and shared it with my cousins who live in New York after a dinner together!

Cho Dang Gol
- This restaurant is an old fashioned Korean place that serves homemade tofu. It is a little bit different from what we normally buy at the store, but the tofu is more of a crushed tofu in the stews that are served there. They also have other entrees including fish, Korean meat dishes, and of course a variety of side dishes that come with the main entrée. We really enjoyed our meal here! It was super filling and really delicious! If you want some real good Korean traditional dishes, this restaurant is a good choice to go to.

Places we couldn’t eat but heard it was good
Hong Chun Cheon Dak Galbi- This restaurant is a Korean bbq restaurant for chicken. Again, we were planning on going but ended up not.
Pelicana Chicken- Another famous fried chicken restaurant.
